Laytime
The amont of time allotted to a tanker at berth to complete either loading or discharge of cargo, usually expressed in running hours. Laytime (or layhours) is fixed by prior agreement between the vessel owner and the company chartering the vessel.
 
 
Time needed to plan and construct a facility, including the time required to obtain government approval, carry ou environmental assessment, etc.
 
 
Light Water Reactor (LWR)
 
A nuclear reactor which uses light (or ordinary) water as a moderator and coolant and enriched uranium as a fuel.
 
 
Liquefied Natural Gas (LNG)
Natural gas which is cooled and maintained as a liquid at -160o Celcius, reduced in volume nearly 600-fold. When shipped by tanker, it is typically vapourized at the receiving terminal for pipeline transport.
 
 
Load
The amount of electric power delivered or required at any specified point or points on a system. Load originates at the power-consuming equipment of the customer.
 
 
Load Management
A method of controlling electrical demand by switching off equipment, or moving demand from one time period to another.
 
 
Logging
A form of testing which utilizes special instruments that record the formation type, depth thickness, porosity, and fluid content of the formation.
