After declining in 2008, Canada's mined oilsands production resumed growth in 2009 to 806,461 bbls of bitumen per day from 710,600 bbls per day the previous year, thanks to the onset of volumes from the Canadian Natural Resources Limited's new Horizon mine and higher rates from all mines except Syncrude Canada Ltd.

Suncor Energy Inc. has completed its assessment and expected schedule to repair portions of an oilsands upgrader (U1) damaged by fire in early February. Repairs are currently underway and the company now expects the upgrader to return to production in early April.

Athabasca Oil Sands Corp. reports that, having received all necessary approvals from the governments of Canada and the People's Republic of China, it has closed the transaction with PetroChina International Investment Company Limited, a wholly-owned subsidiary of PetroChinaCompany Limited (PetroChina), divesting a 60% working interest in AOSC's MacKay River and Dover oilsands projects for a consideration of $1.9 billion.
